What Zoom does
Zoom is a video conferencing platform used for meetings, webinars and phone calls. Organisations rely on it for scheduled meetings, recurring standups and customer calls, and it integrates with calendar systems so that joining is usually a single click from the invite rather than a separate login.
What an outage looks like
When Zoom is down, joining a meeting fails with a connecting message that never resolves, or participants are dropped mid-call and cannot rejoin. Scheduling from the calendar plug-in may fail, recordings may not process, and the web portal can be unreachable while the desktop client still shows a stale meeting list.
What to do about it
Check zoomstatus.com, which reports meetings, webinars, phone and the web portal separately. If a meeting is already running, participants who stay connected are often unaffected, so avoid hanging up to test whether it is working. Dial-in numbers on the invite use different infrastructure from video and sometimes work when the client does not.
Is it down for everyone, or just you?

Can I still join by phone if Zoom is down?
Often yes. Dial-in audio runs on separate infrastructure from video, and the numbers on the meeting invite sometimes work when the client cannot connect. It is a reasonable fallback for a meeting that has to happen, though screen sharing and chat are obviously unavailable on an audio-only connection.
Should I leave a meeting if Zoom starts having problems?
Usually not. Participants already connected frequently stay connected through an incident that is preventing new joins, so leaving to test whether it works can cost you the meeting. If the call is still functioning, keep it running and let anyone who has not joined dial in by phone instead.
Are cloud recordings lost during an outage?
Recordings already completed are stored and reappear once service returns. Recordings in progress when an incident begins are the ones at risk, and processing can be delayed well after the meeting ends, so a recording that has not appeared immediately is not necessarily lost. Give it time before re-recording anything.
Does a Zoom outage affect Zoom Phone?
Zoom Phone is reported as its own component and can fail independently of meetings. For organisations that use it as their main telephony, that is a more serious incident than a meetings outage, because it affects inbound customer calls rather than internal scheduling. The status page distinguishes the two.
How we measure this
- We request Zoom's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — the most recent check ran from 8 of them. When you open this page and our last check is more than 30 minutes old, we check again on the spot; those checks update the verdict, never the availability figures.
- A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A
403or429means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage. - A single failing region is treated as probe noise. Our checks only change their verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
- Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
- Where Zoom publishes an official status feed we read it too, and the verdict is the worse of what it reports and what our checks see: a major outage of Zoom itself is Down, trouble with one part of it is Degraded, problems at a few of a provider's many locations change nothing, and a security notice that marks nothing down is shown but changes nothing either. We check the feed every 3 minutes and read it again within minutes of any change to its incidents or components; a reading counts for 45 minutes after the last check that found nothing changed. The availability figures above are our measurement alone.
