What Zearn does

Zearn is a nonprofit online math program used in elementary and middle school classrooms, pairing video lessons with practice that adapts to each student. Teachers assign it in class and for homework and track progress from a teacher dashboard. Many districts sign students in through Clever, so Zearn depends on that rostering and login service as well as its own site.

What an outage looks like

Students click the Zearn icon in Clever and land on an error or a blank page. Lessons load but videos do not play, or practice problems do not advance. Progress from a finished lesson does not appear on the teacher dashboard. New students added by the district do not show up in classes. The zearn.org sign-in page fails to load.

What to do about it

Check status.zearn.org, which reports Zearn Math and the Clever Integration as separate rows. If only Clever is affected, students who have a Zearn username and password can sign in at zearn.org directly. Teachers should have a paper or offline math activity ready, and not reassign lessons in bulk until the site recovers.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

Is Zearn down or is it Clever?

The status page lists the Clever Integration separately from Zearn Math, so check both. If Clever is the problem, other apps that students open through Clever will usually fail too, and Zearn itself may be working. Zearn's help pages describe signing in directly at zearn.org as the alternative for students who have their own login.

Can students log in without Clever?

Only if their school has set up another method. Zearn's help pages describe direct sign-in at zearn.org with a username and password, or Sign in with Google, for students who do not use Clever. Districts that roster only through Clever may not have given students those credentials, so ask your school administrator.

Will students lose progress if Zearn goes down mid-lesson?

Work already saved is kept, but the step a student was on when the site failed may need to be repeated. If the teacher dashboard does not show a lesson a student finished, wait until the site has fully recovered before asking them to redo it; progress can appear late.

Why are new students missing from my Zearn class?

Rosters for Clever districts come through the Clever Integration. If that row is degraded, students added by the district may not appear until it recovers. If it is healthy and a student is still missing, the district's Clever sync is the usual cause and your school administrator can check it.

Is Zearn down for everyone or just my school?

If Zearn Math is healthy on the status page, the problem is likely local: the school network, a content filter blocking a Zearn domain, or the district's Clever setup. Try from a phone on mobile data. If it loads there, the school network is the place to look.

How we measure this

We request Zearn's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — the most recent check ran from 8 of them.
A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
Where Zearn publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
