Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What Wistia does

Wistia hosts and delivers video for marketing teams, providing embeddable players, viewer analytics, live events and lead capture inside the video itself. Businesses use it on product pages, for webinars and for gated content, so a Wistia outage is visible on customer-facing pages rather than internally. Its analytics also feed marketing systems that depend on those viewing events.

What an outage looks like

Embedded players on marketing pages show a spinner or fail to appear at all, leaving a gap in the page layout. Uploads complete but videos stay in encoding and never become playable. Live events fail to start or drop mid-broadcast, which cannot be repeated for the audience that missed it. Stats and transcripts stop updating while playback itself continues normally.

What to do about it

status.wistia.com tracks Embeds, Edit, wistia.com, Uploads, Encoding, Live, App, Stats, Group Record, Billing and Transcripts separately, so a viewer-facing failure is easy to tell from an internal one. Embeds is the row that matters when customers report a broken page. If a live event is scheduled during an incident, moving it beats starting into a degraded pipeline.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says Wistia is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from all 18 regions to find out where it breaks.

Wistia outage FAQ

Videos will not play on my site. Is it Wistia or my page?
Open the same video on its Wistia-hosted page. If it plays there and not on your site, the problem is the embed or the page around it rather than Wistia itself. Wistia tracks Embeds as a component separate from wistia.com for this reason, so check that row when the hosted version works and yours does not.
An upload finished but the video is stuck processing. Is that an outage?
Check the Encoding component, which Wistia tracks separately from Uploads. A file can arrive intact and then wait, because encoding is a queue and a backlog during an incident makes normal delays look like failures. Re-uploading adds to the same queue and leaves you with a duplicate, so wait before trying again.
A live event is scheduled during an incident. Should I go ahead?
Move it if the Live component is affected. A live broadcast cannot be replayed for the audience that missed it, and starting into a degraded pipeline risks a stream that drops partway rather than one that never began. Announce a new time, and confirm the Live row is healthy before starting rather than trusting the overall banner.
My video stats dropped to zero. Did viewers stop watching?
Check the Stats component before concluding anything. Wistia tracks Stats separately from Embeds and playback, so collection can stop while videos play normally. A flat chart during an incident usually means measurement stopped, not viewing. Figures generally fill in once collection recovers, so wait before reporting the day's numbers to anyone.
Does a Wistia outage affect videos already embedded elsewhere?
Yes, wherever they are embedded. The player and the video file are both served by Wistia, so every page carrying an embed is affected at once, including landing pages, pages linked from email and any partner site using your embed code. That breadth is why Embeds is the first component to check when a customer reports a problem.

How we measure this

  • We request Wistia's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — 8 of them answered the most recent check.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where Wistia publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
