Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What Wattpad does

Wattpad is a community where writers publish serialised fiction chapter by chapter and readers follow, comment and vote. Writers build an audience around a posting schedule, so an outage during a scheduled chapter release costs both the reading session and the engagement that a release day is meant to generate.

What an outage looks like

The library and story pages fail to load, or load without chapter content. Drafts in My Works will not save, and a chapter written in the editor can be lost on refresh. Comments fail to post and vote counts stall. Story statistics and rankings stop updating, so a release looks like it reached nobody even when it did.

What to do about it

Check status.wattpad.com, which reports general usability, My Works and the Create page, Comments, Search, Story Statistics, Story Rankings and email delivery as separate components. Draft long chapters outside the editor and paste them in, since a browser session is the only place unsaved work exists. Delay a scheduled release until notifications recover.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says Wattpad is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from up to 18 cities across three regions to find out where it breaks.

Wattpad outage FAQ

Will I lose a chapter I was writing when Wattpad goes down?
If the draft had not saved, very likely. The editor holds work in the browser until it reaches Wattpad, and a refresh or a closed tab discards it. Writing longer chapters in a separate document and pasting them in removes this risk entirely, which is worth doing regardless of whether an incident is in progress.
Why have my reads and votes stopped counting?
Story Statistics and Story Rankings are separate components from general usability, so counts can stall while people are reading normally. The reads are usually still happening; the reporting is what has stopped. Numbers typically catch up after recovery, so avoid concluding that a chapter flopped based on figures from an incident window.
Should I still publish a chapter during an outage?
Waiting is usually better. A chapter can publish while notifications and email delivery are degraded, meaning followers never learn it exists and it slides down their feed unread. Since the whole point of a release day is the notification, publishing into a silent window wastes it. Hold until Notifications is healthy.
Is Wattpad down or is my story unpublished?
Stories can be in draft, unpublished or removed for content reasons, each of which produces a specific message rather than a page that fails to load. Check status.wattpad.com first. If the site works and only your story is unreachable, look at its status in My Works before assuming a platform problem.
Do Wattpad Originals and coin purchases work during an outage?
Originals and the coin wallet are listed as their own component, so purchases can fail while free stories read normally. A payment that errored may not have completed, and buying again risks a double charge. Check your coin balance once the status page clears rather than retrying the purchase immediately.

How we measure this

  • We request Wattpad's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — the most recent check ran from 8 of them.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where Wattpad publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
