Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What Underdog does

Underdog, which also operates as Underdog Fantasy, runs a sports app for pick'em entries, fantasy draft games, streaks and team picks across the NFL, NBA and other leagues. The old underdogfantasy.com address now redirects to underdogsports.com. Play happens in the iOS and Android apps or on the web, and the app needs location permission and refuses to run with a VPN enabled.

What an outage looks like

The app or site will not load the lobby, entries fail to submit, or live stats stop updating. Many errors are not outages. A 429 error means your connection hit a rate limit. A location permission error means location services are off on your device or browser. An enabled VPN blocks the app completely. Those clear up on your side.

What to do about it

Check status.underdogfantasy.com, which shows automated checks of two systems, API and Stats, with response times; its incident list for the last three months is empty. If both are up, work through Underdog's own fixes: restart the app, toggle airplane mode, switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, and turn off any VPN. Then contact support by chat or email.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says Underdog is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from up to 17 cities across three regions to find out where it breaks.

Underdog outage FAQ

Why does Underdog say I have a location error?
Usually because location access is off, not because Underdog is down. The web error You have denied us location permissions means location services must be enabled in both your operating system and your browser. Underdog also prohibits VPNs, and the app will not work while one is on. Restarting, toggling airplane mode and reinstalling the app are its other suggested fixes.
What does a 429 error on Underdog mean?
It means you hit a rate limit by making too many requests in a short time. It is not an outage. Underdog's help center says to wait about 30 minutes or more before trying again, clear your browser cache and cookies, and try signing in over mobile data instead of Wi-Fi. If it continues after that, contact support.
Is Underdog working if its status page is green?
Not necessarily. The status page runs automated checks against two systems, API and Stats, and reports their response times. A fault in a feature those two checks do not exercise may not show there, and the page lists no incidents in its three-month history. If both rows are up and the app still fails for you, try the location and network fixes before assuming an outage.
How do I contact Underdog support during an outage?
Chat is the fastest route. In the app, log in and tap Contact Support from the Account tab; on the web, use the chat bubble in the bottom-right corner. If you cannot log in because the app itself is failing, email support@underdogsports.com instead. Include the time and the exact error message you saw.
Why is my Underdog account locked?
After several failed login attempts Underdog locks the account as a precaution and sends an automated email. Follow it to reset your password and confirm your device and login location. A We don't recognize this device or location error also triggers a verification email, which can land in spam or junk, so check there before contacting support.

How we measure this

  • We request Underdog's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — the most recent check ran from 8 of them.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where Underdog publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
