What Todoist does

Todoist is a task manager syncing projects, due dates and reminders across web, desktop and mobile clients. People run both work and personal commitments through it, so the failure that matters is not the app refusing to open but reminders that never fire for something time-critical.

What an outage looks like

Tasks added on one device do not appear on another, so the same item gets created twice. Reminders and notifications do not fire at their scheduled time. The web app fails to load while installed apps continue working from their local cache. Integrations and API clients return errors, and shared projects show collaborators' changes late or not at all.

What to do about it

Check status.todoist.net, which reports the web application and API, the Content Sync API and the website as separate components. Native apps hold a local copy and keep working offline, so keep using the app you have rather than switching devices. Anything scheduled during the incident is worth checking manually, since a missed reminder is not re-fired.

Do tasks added offline sync later?

Yes. Todoist's native apps are built to work offline, holding changes locally and sending them when the connection returns. This is why using one device throughout an incident is better than switching: editing the same project on two devices that cannot see each other produces conflicting versions someone has to reconcile afterwards.

Will reminders fire for tasks due during an outage?

Reminders scheduled during a sync incident may not deliver, and missed ones are generally not re-sent afterwards. The task keeps its due date and appears overdue, which is the only trace. For anything genuinely time-critical during a known incident, a separate alarm on your phone is a sensible backup.

Is Todoist down or is it just the web app?

The status page reports the web application and the sync API separately, and they fail independently. A web app that will not load while your phone works normally points at that component rather than a full outage. Using the installed app is the immediate workaround, since it does not depend on loading the site.

Why can my colleague see a task I cannot?

Shared projects rely on sync reaching both devices, and during an incident each of you may hold a different view of the same project. Neither is wrong; they are just not converged. Avoid deleting or recreating tasks that appear missing, because both versions arrive once sync recovers and you end up with duplicates.

Are my tasks at risk during a Todoist outage?

Tasks that synced are stored and return with the service. Changes made locally and not yet sent stay on that device until it can deliver them, so avoid reinstalling the app or signing out during an incident: that discards the local copy holding your unsynced work, which is the one way to genuinely lose it.

How we measure this

We request Todoist's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — the most recent check ran from 8 of them.
A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
Where Todoist publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
