Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What Stripe does

Stripe is a payment processing platform used by millions of businesses worldwide to accept online payments. It provides APIs for handling credit card transactions, subscriptions, invoicing, and financial reporting. Stripe powers checkout flows for companies ranging from startups to Fortune 500 enterprises.

What an outage looks like

When Stripe is down, customers may see payment failures at checkout, declined transactions despite valid cards, or spinning loaders that never complete. Subscription renewals and recurring billing may silently fail, and dashboard access for merchants may be unavailable.

What to do about it

Check Stripe's official status page at status.stripe.com for real-time incident reports. If you're a merchant, review your Stripe Dashboard webhook logs for failed delivery attempts. Stripe queues webhooks during outages and retries them automatically, so most transactions will eventually process once service is restored.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says Stripe is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from all 18 regions to find out where it breaks.

Stripe outage FAQ

What happens to my payments when Stripe is down?
Stripe's infrastructure is designed with redundancy, so full outages are rare. During partial outages, payments may be queued and processed once service is restored. If the API is completely unreachable, payment attempts will fail and customers will need to retry after the outage is resolved.
Does Stripe have an official status page?
Yes, Stripe maintains a detailed status page at status.stripe.com. It shows the current status of the API, Dashboard, Stripe.js, and Connect, with historical uptime data and active incident reports.
Will I lose money if Stripe goes down during a sale?
Payments that were already authorized before the outage will still be captured. New payment attempts during the outage will fail, but no money is lost. Customers can retry once service is restored, and subscription billing will catch up automatically.
How often does Stripe experience outages?
Stripe has historically maintained very high uptime, typically above 99.99%. Most incidents are partial degradations affecting specific features rather than complete outages. Major incidents affecting all payment processing are extremely rare.
Can I set up alerts for Stripe outages?
You can subscribe to updates on status.stripe.com via email, SMS, or RSS. For more proactive monitoring, FlareWarden can check Stripe's availability from 18 global regions and alert you before the official status page is updated.

How we measure this

  • We request Stripe's public endpoint every 30 minutes from Fly.io regions across six continents — 18 of them answered the most recent check.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where Stripe publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
