What Stamps.com does

Stamps.com prints USPS postage and shipping labels from a web browser or a Windows desktop application, and sells the same service through an API that e-commerce platforms and warehouse systems call directly. Small retailers, online marketplace sellers and fulfilment teams use it to buy postage, print labels and file refunds without visiting a post office.

What an outage looks like

Label purchases fail part-way through, so postage is charged but no label renders, or the print dialog opens on a blank PDF. The Windows application hangs at sign-in while the browser version loads normally. API calls from a connected store return errors and orders stop importing, leaving nothing to print. Postage history, refund requests and SCAN forms can be unavailable while label printing still works.

What to do about it

Check status.stamps.com, which reports Stamps.com Online, the Windows software, the SWS/Web Services API and the reporting tools as four separate components, so a browser-only or API-only problem is visible rather than guessed at. Do not repeat a failed label purchase before checking postage history, because a duplicate label becomes a refund request rather than a simple reprint.

Is Stamps.com down for everyone or just me?
Stamps.com publishes one status page covering four components, and incidents are often scoped to one of them, so the web version can fail while the Windows application works or the reverse. If the page is green, sign in from a different browser to rule out a stale session, then ask someone else on your account whether they can print. Windows-only failures are frequently a local installation problem.
I was charged for postage but no label printed. Do I lose the money?
No. Unused postage is refundable through Stamps.com's refund process, which sits under the reporting tools component on the status page. Check Postage History before buying a second label, because a purchase that charged you has often created a label record even when the print step failed, and reprinting from history costs nothing while buying again costs you twice.
Does a Stamps.com outage stop orders importing from my store?
It can. The Stamps.com API, listed as SWS/Web Services, is what connected stores and warehouse systems call, and it is reported separately from the web and desktop apps. While it is degraded, orders stop flowing in and no labels are generated, but the orders themselves stay in your store. Expect a backlog to import once the component recovers rather than permanent loss.
Can I still ship if Stamps.com is down?
Yes, through other channels. USPS Click-N-Ship, a retail post office, or another label provider your carrier accounts already support will still produce postage, and labels bought elsewhere are valid regardless of Stamps.com's state. If your store's integration is the part that failed, exporting orders and buying labels manually is usually faster than waiting out a long incident.
