What Speechify does

Speechify reads text aloud in AI voices: web pages, PDFs and documents, emails, scanned books, Kindle titles and pasted text. It runs as a Chrome extension, a web app, Mac and Windows apps, and iPhone and Android apps, with the library synced between them. Its help center lists textbooks, assignments and research papers among what it reads, so an outage often lands in the middle of studying.

What an outage looks like

Playback with Premium and HD voices stalls or will not start, because Speechify streams those voices from its servers, while iPhone files already downloaded keep reading in an offline voice. Sign-in fails in the extension and apps when the Auth API is down, and the library stops syncing between devices. Every voice failing at once points to Speechify rather than to the document or website you are reading.

What to do about it

Check status.speechify.com, which shows 90 days of uptime bars for ten APIs, including Auth, Books, Catalog, Entitlement, LLM, Payment and User Profile, but no written incident notes. On iPhone, files already downloaded with the cloud icon keep playing with an offline voice. Is Speechify down, or does it just not work on this webpage?

If only one page fails, it is usually the page. Speechify's help center says it generally reads open-access pages, not ones behind a login, and that file format, size, memory and website firewalls also stop it. Try highlighting text and choosing Read Selection (Option+Q on Mac, Alt+Q on Windows), or the Screenshot and Listen feature, before assuming an outage.

Can I use Speechify offline?

Partly, on iPhone. Speechify's help center explains downloading a file from your Library with the cloud icon next to its name and then choosing an offline voice to read it, and advises trying this before you lose connection. Premium voices are streamed from Speechify's servers, so they need a working connection and stop during an outage even when your internet is fine.

Why did the voice stop or start sounding robotic?

Premium and HD voices are streamed from Speechify's servers, so a weak connection or a server problem degrades them first. Speechify's own troubleshooting steps are to switch to another Premium or Featured voice, check your connection, fully close and reopen the app, try another Wi-Fi or mobile network, and update to the latest version. If every voice fails at once, check the status page.

Does the check on this page measure the Speechify app?

No. It loads speechify.com, the company website. The apps and extension depend on separate API hosts, such as auth.api.speechify.com and books.api.speechify.com, which status.speechify.com tracks individually. The website can load normally while sign-in or playback fails, or the reverse, so read this check together with the API rows on Speechify's own page.

How do I contact Speechify support during an outage?

Use the channels listed in Speechify's help center. On mobile, tap your profile icon, open Settings and choose Message us; the Chrome extension links to a chat under Settings, Help, Open Help Center. The help center also lists WhatsApp, chat and email in the app's Support section, and the address support@speechify.com. Include the voice used, the document and a screen recording.

How we measure this

We request Speechify's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — the most recent check ran from 8 of them. When you open this page and our last check is more than 30 minutes old, we check again on the spot; those checks update the verdict, never the availability figures.
A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
A single failing region is treated as probe noise. Our checks only change their verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
Where Speechify publishes an official status feed we read it too, and the verdict is the worse of what it reports and what our checks see: a major outage of Speechify itself is Down, trouble with one part of it is Degraded, problems at a few of a provider's many locations change nothing, and a security notice that marks nothing down is shown but changes nothing either. A reading counts for 45 minutes; we read the feed again within minutes of any change to its incidents. The availability figures above are our measurement alone.
