Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What Shopify does

Shopify is the leading e-commerce platform that enables businesses to create and manage online stores. It powers over 4 million stores worldwide, handling everything from product listings and checkout to inventory management and shipping. Shopify also provides point-of-sale systems for physical retail locations.

What an outage looks like

When Shopify is down, online stores may display error pages or fail to load entirely. The checkout process may freeze, preventing customers from completing purchases. Merchants may be unable to access their admin dashboard, process orders, or update inventory. Shopify POS systems in physical stores may also stop working.

What to do about it

Check www.shopifystatus.com for real-time updates on any incidents. If your store checkout is affected, consider posting on your social media channels to let customers know you're aware of the issue. Shopify processes pending orders and transactions once service is restored, so no orders should be permanently lost.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says Shopify is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from all 18 regions to find out where it breaks.

Shopify outage FAQ

Will I lose sales if Shopify goes down?
Customers who attempt to make purchases during a Shopify outage will likely abandon their carts if checkout is unavailable. Shopify cannot recover these lost sales automatically. However, any orders that were partially processed will be completed once service is restored.
Does a Shopify outage affect all stores or just mine?
Shopify outages typically affect all stores on the platform since they share the same infrastructure. If only your store is having issues and the Shopify status page shows all systems operational, the problem is likely specific to your store configuration, theme, or a third-party app.
Can I switch to a backup platform during a Shopify outage?
Switching platforms during an outage is not practical since it requires DNS changes and significant setup. The best approach is to communicate with customers via social media or email and wait for Shopify to restore service. Most Shopify outages are resolved within a few hours.
What happens to my Shopify POS if the internet goes down?
Shopify POS has an offline mode that can process cash transactions and store them locally. However, credit card payments require an internet connection. Once connectivity is restored, offline transactions sync automatically to your Shopify admin.
Does Shopify offer compensation for outages?
Shopify does not offer service credits or refunds for outages as part of their standard terms. However, for Enterprise (Shopify Plus) customers, there may be SLA provisions. Contact Shopify Plus support directly to discuss compensation for significant outages affecting your business.

How we measure this

  • We request Shopify's public endpoint every 30 minutes from Fly.io regions across six continents — 18 of them answered the most recent check.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where Shopify publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
