Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What Rockstar Games does

Rockstar Games develops Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption and runs the online services behind them. GTA Online and Red Dead Online need Rockstar's servers for matchmaking, character data and purchases, and the Rockstar Games Launcher handles sign-in on PC. Its service status page tracks each game per platform, so consoles can be affected while PC is not.

What an outage looks like

GTA Online or Red Dead Online fails to load past the loading screen, or drops you into an empty session alone. Sign-in through the Rockstar Games Launcher fails on PC and the game will not start. Character and progress data will not load, and in-game purchases are declined. FiveM and RedM refuse connections when Cfx authentication is affected.

What to do about it

Check support.rockstargames.com/servicestatus, which lists GTA Online and Red Dead Online per platform alongside Authentication, the Rockstar Games Launcher, the Store, and the Cfx services behind FiveM and RedM. Match the row to your own platform before troubleshooting your connection. Avoid repeated purchase attempts while the Store is affected, and wait for the page to clear rather than reinstalling.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says Rockstar Games is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from all 18 regions to find out where it breaks.

Rockstar Games outage FAQ

Is GTA Online down or is it just my connection?
Rockstar's status page reports GTA Online separately for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PC, so start by finding your own platform's row. If your platform reads operational and others do not, the fault is more likely local or console-network related. The measurement above probes Rockstar's own origin from several regions, ruling out a single-region routing problem.
Will I lose my GTA Online character or progress?
Character and progress data lives on Rockstar's servers rather than on your console, which is why it will not load during an outage and also why it is not lost when they are unreachable. The risk is playing on while data has only partly loaded, so if your character appears empty or wrong, quit to the main menu rather than continuing.
Does a Rockstar outage affect FiveM and RedM?
It can. Rockstar's status page lists Cfx separately, covering Cfx Authentication, FiveM, RedM, Community Servers and the Marketplace. Because FiveM sign-in depends on Cfx authentication, an authentication incident stops players joining community servers even though those servers are run by third parties. Read the Cfx section rather than the GTA Online one if that is what you play.
Can I play single-player when Rockstar's servers are down?
Usually yes on console, where the Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 story modes run locally. On PC the Rockstar Games Launcher normally needs to sign in before a game will start, so a launcher or authentication outage can block single-player too. The status page lists the Launcher and Authentication as their own components for exactly that reason.
How do I know when it is fixed?
Rockstar timestamps its service status page, showing when the current state was last confirmed. Reload it rather than relying on a cached view, and read your platform's specific row instead of the overall banner, since the summary can read operational while one platform is still affected. The measurement above updates continuously and independently of that page.

How we measure this

  • We request Rockstar Games's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — 8 of them answered the most recent check.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where Rockstar Games publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
