What Ring does

Ring makes video doorbells, cameras and alarm systems that stream to a phone app and store recordings in the cloud. People rely on the notification arriving when someone is at the door, so an outage is felt as events that never alerted rather than as an app that failed to open.

What an outage looks like

Motion and doorbell notifications stop arriving, which is only noticed after the fact. Live View fails to connect or times out on a spinner. Recorded events are missing from the timeline for the affected window. The app will not load or shows devices as offline when they are powered and connected. Alexa routines involving Ring devices stop responding.

What to do about it

Check status.ring.com, which reports the mobile apps, Live Streaming, Stored Video Recordings, Ring Device Health and the Alexa and partner integrations separately, and breaks devices out by type. The doorbell chime and any local siren keep working regardless. Avoid factory resetting a device that shows offline, since re-enrolling it needs the service that is unavailable.

Is Ring down or has my camera lost Wi-Fi?

A single device offline while others work points at that device's Wi-Fi or power rather than an incident. Ring reports Device Health as its own component, so check whether everything is offline or just one. Resist factory resetting during an outage: re-enrolment requires Ring's services and can leave you with a device you cannot set up.

Are events recorded during a Ring outage?

Not reliably. Recording and notification depend on Ring's cloud, so an incident can mean a motion event was neither stored nor alerted, and there is no local copy to recover. This is the genuine cost of an outage on a security product, and it is why a critical entrance is worth covering by more than one system.

Does the doorbell still ring inside my house?

A wired chime connected to the doorbell circuit sounds mechanically and does not depend on Ring's servers. What fails is the phone notification, Live View and the recording. So someone at the door is still announced inside the house, but you will not know about it while away, which is the scenario most people care about.

Why does Live View fail when the app opens fine?

Live Streaming is a separate component from the app itself and is far more demanding, since it brokers a real-time connection between your camera and your phone. The app can load and list devices while streaming fails entirely. Check that component specifically rather than assuming your home network is at fault.

Does a Ring outage disable my alarm system?

The alarm's local siren and sensors operate on the panel itself and continue working. What an incident affects is remote arming and disarming from the app, notifications, and professional monitoring communications. Check status.ring.com and, if monitoring matters to you, confirm with the monitoring provider rather than assuming coverage continued.

How we measure this

We request Ring's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — the most recent check ran from 8 of them.
A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
Where Ring publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
