Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What Renaissance Learning does

Renaissance Learning is a K-12 assessment and practice company. Its catalogue includes Star Assessments for screening and progress monitoring, Accelerated Reader for reading practice and quizzes, plus Freckle, myON, Lalilo, FastBridge, Nearpod and Flocabulary. Districts use Star results for placement and intervention decisions, which makes testing windows the point of highest exposure.

What an outage looks like

Students cannot start or submit a Star test, Accelerated Reader quizzes fail to record, or teacher dashboards will not load results. Renaissance reports around twenty products individually, so Accelerated Reader can fail while Star Assessments is healthy. Its status page also carries separate rows for the support phone system and support email, so reaching help can be affected during the same incident.

What to do about it

Check status.renaissance.com and find the specific product, because Star Assessments, Star Phonics, Star Preschool, Accelerated Reader, Freckle, myON, Lalilo, FastBridge, Nearpod and Flocabulary all report separately. During a testing window, stop starting new tests rather than letting students submit into a failing service. If the Phone System or Support Cases rows are also affected, expect slower replies from Renaissance support.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says Renaissance Learning is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from up to 18 cities across three regions to find out where it breaks.

Renaissance Learning outage FAQ

Accelerated Reader is down but Star Assessments works. Is that possible?
Yes, and it is common. Renaissance publishes each product as its own component, so Accelerated Reader, Star Assessments, Star Phonics, Star Preschool, Freckle, myON and Lalilo can fail independently of one another. Read the row for the product your class is using rather than the overall headline before deciding what to tell teachers.
Does a Renaissance outage affect Nearpod?
It can, because Nearpod is reported as a component on the Renaissance status page alongside Flocabulary. That said, the components are tracked separately, so a Renaissance incident does not automatically mean Nearpod is affected. Check the Nearpod row directly, and note that Nearpod also publishes its own status page for finer detail.
Will a Star test that was in progress be lost?
Treat an interrupted test as unconfirmed until you can see the result. If tests will not submit, stop starting new ones rather than having students retry, because partial submissions during a testing window are harder to reconcile than a re-test. Check the results once the component is marked resolved, and re-administer only what is genuinely missing.
Is the problem our school network or Renaissance?
Try the same product from outside the school network on mobile data with the same account. If it works there, the cause is your content filter, firewall or sign-on setup rather than Renaissance. If it fails in both places and the product's row shows an incident, it is the vendor and waiting for the update is the right move.
Where can I check past Renaissance incidents?
status.renaissance.com keeps an incident history beneath the component list, which is more informative than a single day's reading when you are trying to establish whether a recurring classroom problem is Renaissance or something local. It also shows how previous incidents were described and how long updates took to arrive.

How we measure this

  • We request Renaissance Learning's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — the most recent check ran from 8 of them.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where Renaissance Learning publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
