Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What Pear Deck does

Pear Deck turns a slide deck into an interactive lesson: the teacher presents, students join on their own devices and answer questions as the class moves through it. It is now part of Pear Deck Learning, which also sells Pear Assessment, Pear Practice and Pear Start. Those are distinct products reported separately.

What an outage looks like

Students cannot join a session or their answers never reach the teacher's view, so a lesson stalls with the class waiting. Rosters and class lists can also arrive empty, which Pear Deck tracks as its own component apart from running a session. Because several products share the brand, a teacher reporting Pear Deck is down may be describing Pear Assessment instead.

What to do about it

Open status.peardeck.com and find the product first. It reports Pear Deck, Pear Assessment, Pear Practice and Pear Start as separate groups, then breaks each down further, including Roster and LMS Sync, Session History and Instant Insights, and Content Generation. If only rostering is affected, an existing lesson often continues, so check before abandoning the class activity.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says Pear Deck is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from up to 18 cities across three regions to find out where it breaks.

Pear Deck outage FAQ

Which Pear product am I actually using?
Pear Deck Learning sells several. Pear Deck is the interactive slide lesson, Pear Assessment is the testing product formerly known as Edulastic, Pear Practice is skills practice and Pear Start is a starter toolset. The status page reports them as separate groups, so an incident affecting assessments may leave interactive lessons entirely untouched. Identify the product before reading the page.
Students cannot join my session. Is Pear Deck down?
Check the Pear Deck group on the status page rather than the overall headline. Session delivery, Session History and Instant Insights, Roster and LMS Sync and My Content are tracked separately, so joining can fail while content and history are fine. If the status page is clear, confirm the join code is current, because codes are per-session and a stale one fails the same way.
My class list is empty but the lesson works. What happened?
Roster and LMS Sync is its own component, separate from running a session. When it is affected, the connection that pulls class lists from your learning management system stops updating while presenting still functions. Students can often still join by code even when they do not appear on a synced roster, so the lesson does not necessarily have to stop.
Is it Pear Deck or our school's Google or LMS sign-in?
Both produce the same symptom of students unable to get in. Pear Deck lists LMS delivery and rostering separately, and sign-in for most schools passes through Google or a district identity provider first. If other Google-based tools are also failing for the same students, the problem is more likely upstream of Pear Deck entirely.
Do student responses survive an outage?
Pear Deck does not publish what happens to responses submitted during an incident, so we will not claim they are stored and recovered. Session History and Instant Insights is a component separate from delivery, which means the record of a lesson can be affected independently of running it. Treat responses collected during a disruption as unconfirmed and check afterwards.

How we measure this

  • We request Pear Deck's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — the most recent check ran from 8 of them.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where Pear Deck publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
