Measured by FlareWarden's own checks of paybyphone.com from multiple regions every 6 hours. PayByPhone's status page sets the verdict above when it reports trouble, but never these figures. Percentages count only checks that returned an availability answer — 8 days measured so far. A dash means that window does not yet hold enough measured days to publish a figure.

What PayByPhone does

PayByPhone is a parking payment app used by cities and car park operators in North America and Europe, including the UK, France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. Drivers enter a location number on the sign, pay with a card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal, and can extend their session from the phone. Parking enforcement officers check the same system to see who has paid.

What an outage looks like

Payments are declined at an unusual rate in one or two countries while the app itself works, which is the most common PayByPhone incident: in the UK and Germany on September 3, 2026 (declines up to 66 percent) and on March 10, and in France and Switzerland on February 25. In a full outage, as on November 13, 2025, nobody can start parking in any market.

What to do about it

Check status.paybyphone.com, which lists the payment service and enforcement for each country. If payments are being declined, try a different card or payment method, since gateway problems often hit only some. If you cannot pay at all, use the parking machine or another option on the sign, or take a photo of the sign showing the time, in case you need to appeal a ticket.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says PayByPhone is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from up to 17 cities across three regions to find out where it breaks.

PayByPhone outage FAQ

Why is PayByPhone declining my card?
It may be PayByPhone's payment gateway, not your card. Most incidents on status.paybyphone.com are raised decline rates in one or two countries caused by a payment gateway, such as Accertify in the UK and Germany on September 3, 2026, or Worldline in France and Switzerland on February 25. Try another payment method and check the status page for your country.
Will I get a ticket if PayByPhone is down?
That is up to the city or car park operator, not PayByPhone. Enforcement is listed as its own component for each country on status.paybyphone.com, because officers use it to see who has paid. If you could not pay, use the other payment option on the sign if there is one, and keep a photo of the sign and the time to support an appeal.
Is PayByPhone down in every country at once?
Rarely. The status page reports North America, the UK, France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy separately, and most incidents affect one or two of them. The last full platform outage posted there was on November 13, 2025, when users could not start parking in any market for about twenty minutes.
Why can't I choose PayPal in the PayByPhone app?
In July 2026 PayByPhone posted that app version 26.7.0 on Android and iOS could not offer PayPal and some other payment methods when a location was selected from the map, showing an error that PayPal was not accepted. Updating the app, or entering the location number from the sign instead of using the map, is worth trying.

How we measure this

  • We request PayByPhone's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — the most recent check ran from 8 of them. When you open this page and our last check is more than 30 minutes old, we check again on the spot; those checks update the verdict, never the availability figures.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. Our checks only change their verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where PayByPhone publishes an official status feed we read it too, and the verdict is the worse of what it reports and what our checks see: a major outage of PayByPhone itself is Down, trouble with one part of it is Degraded, problems at a few of a provider's many locations change nothing, and a security notice that marks nothing down is shown but changes nothing either. We check the feed every 3 minutes and read it again within minutes of any change to its incidents or components; a reading counts for 45 minutes after the last check that found nothing changed. The availability figures above are our measurement alone.
