Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What Notion does

Notion is a workspace tool combining documents, wikis, databases and task tracking. Teams use it for internal documentation and project planning, and many treat it as the canonical home for runbooks and onboarding material, which is what makes an outage awkward at exactly the moment someone needs a runbook.

What an outage looks like

During a Notion outage pages fail to load or open blank, edits stop syncing between people, and the app shows a reconnecting banner. Search returns nothing and database views hang while loading. Recently opened pages may still be readable from local cache, which gives the impression the app works until you try to edit something.

What to do about it

Check notion-status.com for current incidents. Pages opened recently are often still readable offline in the desktop and mobile apps, so look there before assuming content is gone. Avoid large structural changes while sync is failing: offline edits are reconciled on reconnect, and conflicting changes are harder to unpick than simply redoing them.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says Notion is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from all 18 regions to find out where it breaks.

Notion outage FAQ

Can I read my Notion pages while it is down?
Often yes, for pages you opened recently. The desktop and mobile apps keep a local cache, so recently viewed content stays readable even when the service is unreachable. Search and anything you have not opened will not work, and edits will not sync, but a runbook you read yesterday is usually still there.
Will edits made during an outage be saved?
Edits made in the app while it is offline are held locally and reconciled when the connection returns. That usually works, but simultaneous edits by other people can conflict, and the resolution is not always what you would have chosen. For anything structural, waiting is safer than editing through an incident.
Do public Notion pages go down too?
Yes. Publicly shared pages and Notion-hosted sites are served by the same platform, so an outage takes them down along with the app. If you publish customer-facing documentation from Notion, an incident affects your readers as well as your team, which is worth knowing before choosing it for a status or help page.
Does the Notion API go down separately?
The API is reported as its own component and can degrade independently of the app. Integrations that sync tasks or documents will start failing while people are still working normally in the interface, so a quiet API incident often shows up first as a broken automation rather than as a visibly broken page.

How we measure this

  • We request Notion's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — 8 of them answered the most recent check.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where Notion publishes an official status feed we read it too, and let it override us in both directions.
