No downtime Partial Downtime Not measurable No data

Measured by FlareWarden's own checks of notability.com from multiple regions every 6 hours. Notability's status page sets the verdict above when it reports trouble, but never these figures. Percentages count only checks that returned an availability answer — 23 days measured so far. A dash means that window does not yet hold enough measured days to publish a figure.

What Notability does

Notability is a note-taking app from Ginger Labs, used heavily by students and teachers for handwritten notes, PDF markup and recorded lectures. Notes sync through Notability Cloud, the company's own servers, across iOS, Android, Mac and a web app at notability.com/app. Its servers also run account login, Live Collaboration, audio transcriptions, the Learn quiz and summary tools, and the public Gallery.

What an outage looks like

The app loads slowly or not at all, the library or a note shows an error instead of loading, and notes on another device stop updating. Past incidents have locked notes into a Read-only mode error, blocked logins, triggered the note limit wrongly, stalled Learn content, and stopped account emails. Gallery uploads, shared links and transcripts can fail while local editing still works.

What to do about it

Check status.notability.com, which Ginger Labs links from its Maintenance Updates help article; it rates Learn, Collaboration, Gallery, Audio Transcriptions and Login separately. Keep writing: Notability edits offline and syncs once the service is back. If you were logged out, reset your password at notability.com/password/reset. Report persistent problems from inside the app under Settings, Help, Contact Support.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says Notability is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from up to 17 cities across three regions to find out where it breaks.

Notability outage FAQ

Can I still take notes in Notability during an outage?
Yes. Ginger Labs says you do not need an internet connection to use Notability: you edit offline and it syncs when you are back online. What stops during a server outage is everything that needs Notability Cloud, such as syncing to your other devices, Live Collaboration, audio transcriptions, Learn, the Gallery and signing in. Version History also needs a connection to open.
Did a Notability outage delete my notes?
Probably not. During a long incident Notability stated that an error loading the library or notes is not an indication of data loss, only a symptom of the incident. Once service returns, give the library a few minutes to load, check Settings, Recently Deleted, where deleted notes stay for 30 days, and confirm under Settings, Account that you are signed in with the same email on every device.
Is Notability down for everyone or just me?
Check status.notability.com first; if every row is operational, the cause is usually local. Ginger Labs lists the most common reasons for notes not syncing as being signed in to different accounts on different devices, a weak or intermittent connection, and low device storage. Large libraries can also take a while to sync after a fresh install or when switching devices.
Does a Notability outage affect iCloud sync users?
Less than it affects Notability Cloud users. Ginger Labs says that on the older iCloud sync version your notes are managed by iCloud, and your Notability account is only used for the Gallery and link sharing. On Notability Cloud, your notes are stored on Notability's servers and syncing depends on them. Settings, Connected Services shows which you use: no iCloud sync option means Notability Cloud.
How long do Notability outages usually last?
Most are short. About two thirds of the incidents in Notability's public status history were resolved within four hours, several within an hour. Login problems and app-wide slowdowns have run closer to a full day, and one incident that took down the Gallery and parts of the app lasted just over a day before it was resolved.

How we measure this

  • We request Notability's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — the most recent check ran from 8 of them. When you open this page and our last check is more than 30 minutes old, we check again on the spot; those checks update the verdict, never the availability figures.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. Our checks only change their verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where Notability publishes an official status feed we read it too, and the verdict is the worse of what it reports and what our checks see: a major outage of Notability itself is Down, trouble with one part of it is Degraded, problems at a few of a provider's many locations change nothing, and a security notice that marks nothing down is shown but changes nothing either. We check the feed every 3 minutes and read it again within minutes of any change to its incidents or components; a reading counts for 45 minutes after the last check that found nothing changed. The availability figures above are our measurement alone.
