Components the vendor reports as affected: Mercury Treasury Degraded Performance

A component listed here does not necessarily mean a full outage — large providers routinely report maintenance on individual locations. It only affects the verdict above when the vendor marks it major or critical and our own checks also saw Mercury fail from enough regions to rule out probe noise.

Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What Mercury does

Mercury is a business banking platform used heavily by startups and small companies for checking, treasury, cards, bill pay and invoicing. It is a financial technology company rather than a bank, with accounts held at partner banks. For many early companies it is the only operating account, so an incident can block payroll funding, vendor payments and card spend at once.

What an outage looks like

Sign-in fails or the dashboard loads without balances. Outgoing ACH transfers and wires sit in a pending state longer than usual. Cards decline at the point of sale even with funds available. Bill pay and invoice links do not load for the recipient. Accounting and API integrations stop syncing transactions, so bookkeeping tools show stale balances.

What to do about it

Check status.mercury.com, which lists Money Movement, Account Access, Cards, Bill Pay and Invoicing, Integrations and API, Treasury, Check Deposits and Account Opening as separate rows. Do not resend a transfer that shows as pending; a duplicate can go out once processing resumes. Keep a backup card from another institution for spend that cannot wait.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says Mercury is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from up to 17 cities across three regions to find out where it breaks.

Mercury outage FAQ

Is my money safe if Mercury is down?
An outage affects access, not balances. Mercury holds deposits at its partner banks, and a problem with the app or its money movement systems does not change what is in the account. What you lose during an incident is the ability to see and move funds, which matters most on payroll days and for time-sensitive wires.
Why is my Mercury card declining?
Cards is its own component, so check that row first. If Cards is degraded, declines can happen with money in the account. If it is healthy, the usual causes are a card limit, a merchant category block or a fraud hold, which the dashboard shows. Retrying the same purchase several times can itself trigger a fraud check.
Should I resend a wire that is stuck?
No. A transfer that shows as pending during an incident is usually still queued, and sending it again risks paying twice once processing resumes. Wait for Money Movement to return to operational, then check the transaction history before taking any action. For a deadline, tell the recipient the payment is initiated and pending.
Does a Mercury outage affect my accounting software?
Often, yes. Integrations and API is reported separately, and tools that sync transactions from Mercury will show gaps while it is degraded. The transactions still happened; they arrive once the sync resumes. Avoid reconciling a period that overlaps the incident until the integration catches up.
Is Mercury down for everyone or just my account?
Compare with the status page and a colleague's login. Account Access covers sign-in, so a degraded row there means the problem is not yours. If the page is all clear and only you are affected, account-level restrictions are the other common cause, and those are explained in the dashboard or by email rather than on the status page.

How we measure this

  • We request Mercury's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — the most recent check ran from 8 of them.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where Mercury publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
