Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What Google Gemini does

Gemini is Google's AI assistant, used at gemini.google.com, through mobile apps, and inside Google Workspace via the Gemini side panel in Gmail, Docs and Drive. Google reports it on the Workspace Status Dashboard rather than on a standalone status site, which is why confirmation of a Gemini outage is harder to find than for most products.

What an outage looks like

Google's logged incidents cluster into two shapes. The first is a generic failure message: customers see Something Went Wrong errors in the Gemini app and the Workspace side panel, sometimes with a numeric suffix such as (13) inside conversations. The second is missing data rather than errors, including conversation history disappearing from gemini.google.com and the mobile apps while chat itself kept answering.

What to do about it

Check Google's Workspace Status Dashboard entry for Gemini, which carries the incident history with durations. Google has logged Gemini incidents running from about seven hours to over four days, so this is not always a wait-a-minute problem, and it listed no workaround for either. When conversation history vanished, Google traced it to a background process and stopped it, so allow recovery time before recreating lost work.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says Google Gemini is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from all 18 regions to find out where it breaks.

Google Gemini outage FAQ

Is Gemini down, or am I looking at the wrong Gemini?
Two well-known services share the name and their status pages are unrelated. This page tracks Google's AI assistant at gemini.google.com. Gemini the cryptocurrency exchange operates at gemini.com and publishes its own status page there, so searching the bare word mixes the two together. Confirm which product you actually mean before acting on any status report you find.
Where does Google publish Gemini's status?
On the Google Workspace Status Dashboard, as a product entry alongside Gmail, Calendar and Meet, rather than on a dedicated status site. The dashboard lists each Gemini incident with a summary, a description, the symptoms, any workaround and how long it lasted. There is no status.gemini.google.com, and status.gemini.com belongs to a different company entirely.
Does a Gemini outage affect Gmail and Docs?
Usually only the Gemini features inside them, not the core apps. Google's incidents have named the Gemini app in Workspace and the Gemini side panel specifically, with customers hitting errors there while mail and documents behaved normally. Gemini and the apps it sits inside are separate entries on the same dashboard, so read each one rather than assuming they move together.
How long do Google Gemini outages last?
Longer than people tend to expect. The Workspace dashboard records durations, and Google's own Gemini entries include one lasting seven hours and ten minutes and another spanning four days and two hours. Most are shorter than that, but the multi-day cases involved degraded conversations rather than a total blackout, which is how they run so long without being widely noticed.

How we measure this

  • We request Google Gemini's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — 8 of them answered the most recent check.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where Google Gemini publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
