What Ghost does

Ghost is an open-source publishing platform for newsletters and membership sites. Ghost(Pro) is the managed version, hosting the site, the admin interface, email delivery to subscribers and Stripe-backed paid subscriptions. Writers and small publishers use it to run a paid newsletter end to end, which means an outage can interrupt both what readers see and the payments behind it.

What an outage looks like

Published sites fail to load for readers, or load while the admin area will not sign in. Newsletter sends stall, so a scheduled post publishes to the site but the email never arrives. New paid signups fail at the payment step, and members cannot log in to read subscriber-only posts. Analytics stop recording opens and clicks for the period.

What to do about it

Check ghoststatus.org, which reports Ghost(Pro) Websites, Ghost(Pro) Admin, Email delivery, Stripe payments, Analytics, Social web and Ghost.org as separate rows. If only Admin is affected, your site is still serving readers and there is nothing urgent to do. Do not resend a newsletter until Email delivery is green, because a partial send followed by a resend will double-mail some subscribers.

Is my self-hosted Ghost site affected?

No. Ghost is open-source software that many people install on their own servers, and those installations do not depend on Ghost(Pro) infrastructure. The status page covers the managed service: Ghost(Pro) Websites, Ghost(Pro) Admin and the surrounding email, analytics and payment components. If you installed Ghost yourself, an incident there is not your incident.

My site is up but I cannot log in to the editor. Is that an outage?

It can be. Ghost(Pro) Websites and Ghost(Pro) Admin are separate components, so the public site can serve readers normally while the admin area is unavailable. That is the less damaging case: readers see nothing wrong, and only the person trying to publish is blocked. Check both rows before concluding the site itself is affected.

Will subscribers still be charged during an outage?

Stripe payments is listed as its own component on the Ghost status page, separately from the website and admin. Ghost(Pro) uses Stripe for paid subscriptions, so an incident affecting that row can stop new signups completing and can interrupt the flow between Ghost and Stripe. Check Stripe's own status page as well, since the fault may be upstream.

Did my newsletter actually send?

Check the Email delivery row before doing anything else. A post can publish to the website successfully while the email to subscribers stalls, because publishing and sending are separate steps against separate components. Resending is the risk here: if part of the list already received the email, a manual resend delivers it twice to those subscribers.

How we measure this

We request Ghost's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — the most recent check ran from 8 of them. When you open this page and our last check is more than 30 minutes old, we check again on the spot; those checks update the verdict, never the availability figures.
A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
A single failing region is treated as probe noise. Our checks only change their verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
Where Ghost publishes an official status feed we read it too, and the verdict is the worse of what it reports and what our checks see: a major outage of Ghost itself is Down, trouble with one part of it is Degraded, problems at a few of a provider's many locations change nothing, and a security notice that marks nothing down is shown but changes nothing either. We check the feed every 3 minutes and read it again within minutes of any change to its incidents or components; a reading counts for 45 minutes after the last check that found nothing changed. The availability figures above are our measurement alone.
