Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What FreshBooks does

FreshBooks is invoicing and accounting software for small businesses, freelancers and service firms. It handles invoices and estimates, expense tracking with automatic bank import, time tracking, payments and payroll, through a web application and iOS and Android apps. It is where a small firm's billing and client records live, so downtime interrupts getting paid.

What an outage looks like

FreshBooks reports the main application, the FreshBooks.com website, Automatic Expense Import, FreshBooks Payments, Payroll, Billing and Upgrade, the Free Invoice Creator and the iOS and Android apps as separate components. Expense import can stop pulling bank transactions while the app works normally, payments fail at checkout, and invoice sends error out or leave the invoice sitting as a draft.

What to do about it

Check status.freshbooks.com, which lists the mobile apps and Automatic Expense Import separately from the main application, so a quiet failure such as bank feeds not importing is visible there rather than being mistaken for a bank problem. The page offers email and text message notifications for incidents. Before resending an invoice, check the sent log, since delivery can lag behind what the interface shows.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says FreshBooks is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from all 18 regions to find out where it breaks.

FreshBooks outage FAQ

My bank transactions stopped importing. Is FreshBooks down?
Possibly, and this is the failure most often misread as a bank problem. Automatic Expense Import is its own component on the status page and can be affected while the rest of FreshBooks works normally, so nothing looks broken except that new transactions stop appearing. Check that line specifically before re-linking the bank connection, which is disruptive and rarely the actual fix.
Does the FreshBooks mobile app work when the website is down?
Sometimes. The iOS and Android apps are listed as separate components from the main application and the website, so they can be affected independently in either direction. If the web app is unavailable, trying the mobile app is a reasonable first step rather than a wasted one. The status page will say which surfaces FreshBooks currently considers affected.
Should I resend an invoice that failed to send?
Check the invoice status and the client view first. Delivery can complete after the interface reports a problem, and a duplicate invoice is a worse outcome for a client relationship than a delayed one. If the main application is listed as affected, wait for the incident to clear and then confirm the state of anything you attempted during it.
Can I get told when FreshBooks has an incident?
Yes. The status page offers notifications by email and by text message, so you can be alerted rather than discovering an incident when a client says an invoice never arrived. That is worth setting up if billing runs on a schedule, since the components most likely to fail quietly, such as expense import, are the ones you are least likely to notice yourself.

How we measure this

  • We request FreshBooks's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — 8 of them answered the most recent check.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where FreshBooks publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
