Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What Finalsite does

Finalsite sells software to school districts and to independent, international and charter schools. Its Composer platform hosts and edits school websites, its messaging tools (Messages XR, Connect, Mass Notifications) send email, text and voice alerts to families, and its enrollment system handles admissions and tuition. An outage can take a school's public website offline or hold up messages to parents.

What an outage looks like

School websites hosted on Finalsite return '503 Service Unavailable', load slowly, or show Cloudflare SSL error pages such as 525 or 526, and staff may be unable to open the Composer editor. Problems are often regional: the status page lists Composer separately for US East, US Central, US West, UK and Asia. Messaging problems show up as texts or emails that do not send, or messages that will not schedule.

What to do about it

Check status.finalsite.com first; Finalsite says its team updates it manually and posts any known issue with a server cluster there. If nothing is posted, load the site from outside the school network, since a site that only fails on campus usually means a local DNS problem. For a site outage, Composer clients can call Finalsite's 24/7 emergency phone line; otherwise email help@finalsite.com with the site URL and when it started.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says Finalsite is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from up to 17 cities across three regions to find out where it breaks.

Finalsite outage FAQ

Is Finalsite down for every school or just mine?
Often just some schools, so check which row is affected. status.finalsite.com lists school websites by Composer region (US East, US Central, US West, UK and Asia) plus Web Community Manager, and an incident on one cluster leaves the others running. If every row is green and your site still fails, Finalsite suggests testing it from several locations and running a DNS check on the domain.
Does a Finalsite website outage affect parent messages?
Not necessarily. Finalsite tracks Connect, Mass Notifications, Messages XR, Messages XR Enterprise and Two-way Messaging as separate components from the Composer website clusters and the Enrollment Management System, and most incidents on its status page name only one of them, such as degraded SMS sending in Connect or slow Composer sites in US Central. Check the row for the tool you actually use.
What does a 503 or Cloudflare 525 error on a Finalsite site mean?
A 503 means the site is temporarily unavailable, which Finalsite says can come from a data center issue, maintenance, a local network problem or a DNS misconfiguration. Its error guide says Cloudflare 525 and 526 SSL errors usually clear within minutes. If one lasts more than 15 minutes, contact Finalsite Support with the Cloudflare Ray ID printed on the error page.
How do I get alerts when Finalsite has an outage?
Subscribe on status.finalsite.com, which offers updates by email, text message and Atom/RSS feed. Finalsite's own support guide recommends this for automatic notice of future incidents. The same page keeps post-incident notes on past downtime, so it is also the place to look when you need to explain an earlier outage to staff or families.
How do I reach Finalsite support if I cannot log in?
Phone them. Finalsite's support article says to skip the ticket portal and call if you cannot reach your dashboard. US phone support runs Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm Eastern, and Composer clients have emergency lines open 24/7 outside those hours for site outages and critical display or security issues. The enrollment system has a separate support portal, staffed 7am to 6pm Central on weekdays.

How we measure this

  • We request Finalsite's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — the most recent check ran from 8 of them.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where Finalsite publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
