Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What Dailymotion does

Dailymotion is a French video hosting and streaming platform used both as a destination site and as an embed host for publishers. Its status page breaks the service into seventeen components, separating Playback, Encoding and Upload from the Platform API, the Reporting API and Dailymotion Studio, the interface publishers use to manage their catalogues.

What an outage looks like

Videos load the page but fail at playback, often after the thumbnail and title have already appeared. Embedded players on publisher sites show an error where the video should be. Uploads complete and then sit unencoded, so a file exists in Studio but has no playable version. Analytics and reporting can lag or return empty while playback itself is fine.

What to do about it

Check status.dailymotion.com and read the component that matches the symptom: Playback for videos that will not start, Encoding for uploads stuck without a playable version, Platform API for integrations. Analytics and the Reporting API are listed separately from playback, so missing numbers do not mean viewers were affected. Let encoding drain before re-uploading a file that already transferred.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says Dailymotion is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from all 18 regions to find out where it breaks.

Dailymotion outage FAQ

Is Dailymotion down or is my embed broken?
Open the video on dailymotion.com directly. If it plays there but not in your embed, the fault is more likely in the embed configuration than in Playback. Dailymotion lists Embed settings as its own line on status.dailymotion.com, so check that component before editing your page or replacing the embed code.
My upload finished but there is no playable video. What happened?
That is the Encoding component rather than Upload. Dailymotion transcodes a file after it transfers, and a backlog leaves the video listed in Studio with no playable rendition. Check the Encoding line on the status page. A file that already transferred is waiting in that queue, so re-uploading it usually creates a duplicate rather than fixing anything.
Do outages affect live streams and uploaded videos separately?
Yes. Dailymotion lists Livestream Lifecycle, Ingest and Recording apart from VOD Lifecycle, Upload and Encoding. A live broadcast can fail to reach the platform while recorded video plays normally, and the reverse also happens. Read the specific component during an incident rather than relying on the overall summary at the top of the page.
Why are my analytics missing when the videos play fine?
Analytics and the Reporting API are separate components from Playback, and they fail independently. A reporting incident leaves viewers unaffected while dashboards show gaps or zeroes. Check the Analytics and Reporting API lines on status.dailymotion.com before recording the day as a genuine traffic drop, because the shortfall may be in the measurement rather than in the views.

How we measure this

  • We request Dailymotion's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — 8 of them answered the most recent check.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where Dailymotion publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
