Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What Crunchyroll does

Crunchyroll is an anime streaming service carrying simulcast episodes, dubs and a manga library, along with a store selling merchandise. It runs on a subscription model alongside a free ad-supported tier, and reaches viewers through browsers, mobile apps, game consoles and smart TVs. Its catalogue and release timing vary by country, so two viewers can see different libraries.

What an outage looks like

Crunchyroll's status page splits the platform into Account Access, Apps, Content, Playback, Payments and the Crunchyroll Shop, and outages usually hit one of those rather than all of them. Episodes stall on a spinning loader or return a blank screen, sign-in fails, the app crashes at startup, or the catalogue loads while playback refuses to start. Each region is reported separately.

What to do about it

Check status.crunchyroll.com, which breaks the platform down by North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia, so a fault in one region tells you whether your area is affected. Crunchyroll's own support guidance points at cache, extensions and ad-blockers for single-device failures, and notes that access varies by country if you are travelling. Trying a second device separates a local fault from a platform one.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says Crunchyroll is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from all 18 regions to find out where it breaks.

Crunchyroll outage FAQ

Is Crunchyroll down for everyone or just me?
Crunchyroll's status page reports separately for North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia, so the first thing to check is whether your region is flagged. If the page shows all services running, the fault is more likely local. Crunchyroll's support team asks people to test a second browser or device, because a working session elsewhere points at cache, an extension or the device rather than the platform.
Why does Crunchyroll load but videos will not play?
Playback is a separate component from Content and Apps on Crunchyroll's status page, so the site can browse normally while streams fail. That pattern usually means the video delivery path is affected rather than the catalogue. Crunchyroll also suggests lowering video quality when a connection is unstable, since buffering failures and a genuine playback outage look identical from inside the player.
Does a Crunchyroll outage stop my subscription billing?
Payments is its own component on the status page, separate from Account Access and Playback, so a billing fault and a streaming fault are usually different incidents. If Payments is flagged, card updates and purchases may fail while episodes keep playing. The Crunchyroll Shop runs as a further separate component, so merchandise orders can break without touching streaming at all.
Is some Crunchyroll content missing rather than the site being down?
Crunchyroll states that content and access vary by country or region, so titles can disappear for you without any outage at all. Travelling or a new IP address is enough to change what appears. Check the status page first: if Content is operational for your region, a missing show is a licensing or regional difference rather than a fault.

How we measure this

  • We request Crunchyroll's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — 8 of them answered the most recent check.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where Crunchyroll publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
