Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What ClassLink does

ClassLink is the sign-in layer many school districts put in front of everything else. Students and teachers open LaunchPad, authenticate once, and reach their other applications from a single set of tiles. It also runs rostering, feeding class lists and account data from the district's records into the products those classes depend on.

What an outage looks like

Students reach LaunchPad but cannot sign in, or sign in and find their application tiles missing. Because ClassLink lists Active Directory, Google and Azure integrations as separate components, one group of students is locked out while another signs in normally, which reads inside a school as a problem with particular pupils rather than an outage. Class lists can also arrive empty.

What to do about it

Check status.classlink.com and identify which piece is affected. ClassLink reports Active Directory Integration, Google Integration and Azure Integration separately, along with My Apps, My Files, My Classes, Roster Server, Analytics, Mobile apps and OneData. If sign-in works but the tiles do not, the applications behind them may be fine and reachable at their own addresses directly.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says ClassLink is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from up to 18 cities across three regions to find out where it breaks.

ClassLink outage FAQ

Some students can sign in and others cannot. Is ClassLink down?
Quite possibly, for one identity path. ClassLink tracks Active Directory Integration, Google Integration and Azure Integration as three separate components. If the Google Integration is affected, every student who signs in with a Google account is blocked while students on Active Directory continue normally. In a school that looks like a problem with specific children, and it is not.
Students signed in but their app tiles are missing. What happened?
That points at rostering rather than sign-in. The Roster Server is a component separate from My Apps and My Classes, and it is what supplies class membership and application assignments. When it is affected, authentication succeeds and the page loads with nothing on it. The applications themselves are usually unaffected and can be reached at their own web addresses.
Can students reach their apps without ClassLink?
Often yes, if they know the direct address and have a password for that product. ClassLink is a sign-on and rostering layer in front of other services, so those services can be up while ClassLink is not. The obstacle is usually that students only ever sign in through LaunchPad and have no separate credentials, so plan a fallback before you need it.
Is ClassLink down or is it our district network?
Check the status page first, then test from outside the school network. District filtering, certificate inspection and bandwidth saturation at the start of a lesson all produce symptoms that look identical to a ClassLink incident. If the status page is clear and the service loads from a phone on mobile data, the problem is almost certainly local to the district.
Does a ClassLink outage affect the mobile apps too?
Mobile apps are listed as their own component, so they can be affected separately from the browser experience. That means a student on a school Chromebook and a student on a tablet app can have genuinely different experiences during the same incident. Check the Mobile apps entry rather than assuming the web result applies everywhere.

How we measure this

  • We request ClassLink's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — the most recent check ran from 8 of them.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where ClassLink publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
