Is Chime Down?

No — Chime is up

We cannot measure Chime directly — it blocks automated checks — but Chime's own status page currently reports no issues.

Last checked · checks run every 6 hours

Why there is no uptime figure on this page

The last time we fetched Chime's page directly, the origin answered and turned our client away rather than serving the page. That answer tells us the origin was reachable and responding, but it is a response about our automation, not about whether Chime works for you.

A percentage built from those checks would measure our own access, so we do not publish one. What this page does show is each region's most recent result and Chime's own status feed, which you can weigh yourself.

Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

arn
edge reachable

A static asset loaded in 162ms. That proves the edge is up, but not that the site works.

What Chime does

Chime is a US mobile banking service used mainly from its app, offering a spending account, a savings account, a debit card and features including SpotMe overdraft cover, MyPay early wage access and Pay Anyone transfers. Direct deposit is the centre of it for most members, which is why an outage tends to be noticed on payday rather than at a checkout.

What an outage looks like

The app opens to a spinner or signs you out, and balances show as unavailable rather than wrong. Card purchases decline at the till while the app still loads, because those are separate components. Direct deposits do not post on the day expected, transfers sit pending, and mobile check deposit fails at the capture step. ATM withdrawals and in-app support can fail on their own.

What to do about it

Check status.chime.com, which reports Card Purchases, Direct Deposit, ATMs, SpotMe, MyPay, Pay Anyone, ACH and Instant Transfers, Mobile Check Deposit, Dispute Filing, Login and the app as separate components, so a card problem is distinguishable from a sign-in one. Keep a second payment method to hand while card components are degraded, and do not re-attempt a transfer that has not visibly failed.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says Chime is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from all 18 regions to find out where it breaks.

Chime outage FAQ

Is my money safe during a Chime outage?
An availability incident stops you reaching the app; it does not move balances. What you hold is recorded on Chime's side whether or not the app can display it, and transactions that already completed stay completed. The practical cost is being unable to spend or transfer while it lasts, which is why having a second payment method available matters more than reopening the app.
My direct deposit has not arrived. Is that the outage?
Possibly, but check the timing first. Direct Deposit is its own component on the status page, so a genuine incident there will be posted. Deposits also depend on when your employer's payroll provider releases the file, which varies week to week and sits outside Chime's control. If the component reads operational and other members are being paid, the delay is more likely upstream.
Why does my card decline when the app works?
Because Card Purchases and the Mobile App are separate components. Authorisation runs through a different path from the one that renders your balance, so the app can load normally while a purchase is refused at the terminal, and the reverse happens too. Read which component the status page names before assuming the problem is your card or your account standing.
Does an AWS outage take Chime down?
It can. Chime has been reported down during major cloud outages alongside many other consumer services, which is what makes any single-service status page an incomplete picture during a broad incident. If several unrelated apps fail in the same minute, shared infrastructure is the likelier cause than any one provider, and recovery usually tracks the underlying platform rather than the app.
Should I resend a transfer that is still pending?
Wait rather than resend. Instant Transfers and ACH Transfers are listed as separate components, and a transfer accepted before an incident may be queued rather than failed, so sending it again risks moving the money twice once processing resumes. Check the transaction list after the component returns to operational, and contact support if it is genuinely missing.

How we measure this

  • We request Chime's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — 8 of them answered the most recent check.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where Chime publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it — and when Chime blocks our checks entirely, we report the vendor's own status directly.
