Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What BambooHR does

BambooHR is an HR system for small and medium businesses, holding employee records, time off, onboarding, performance reviews and payroll in one place. It is where staff request leave and where managers approve it, so an outage interrupts routine processes that quietly gate hiring, payroll and holiday planning.

What an outage looks like

The application fails to load after login, or loads with employee records incomplete. Time off requests will not submit, and approvals do not register for the requester. Onboarding tasks assigned to new starters fail to open, which is visible externally. Payroll screens may be unavailable, and email notifications about approvals arrive late or not at all.

What to do about it

Check status.bamboohr.com, which reports app.bamboohr.com separately for the US, Canada and Ireland data centres and lists Cloudflare and Mailgun as dependencies, so a notification failure may be an email problem rather than an application one. Avoid resubmitting leave requests that appeared to fail, since duplicates then need a manager to reject one.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says BambooHR is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from all 18 regions to find out where it breaks.

BambooHR outage FAQ

Which BambooHR region should I check?
Accounts are hosted in the US, Canada or Ireland, and status.bamboohr.com reports app.bamboohr.com separately for each. An incident in a data centre you are not in has no effect on you. Your region follows from where your organisation was set up, and checking the wrong one gives an answer that does not apply.
Did my time off request go through during the outage?
If BambooHR confirmed it, it is stored. If the submission errored, it likely was not created and your manager never saw it. Rather than submitting again immediately, wait for the status page to clear and check your requests list, because duplicate requests need someone to decline one and can confuse leave balances.
Why did I not get an approval email?
BambooHR lists Mailgun as a dependency, so email delivery can fail while the application works perfectly. The approval itself is recorded in BambooHR whether or not the notification arrives. Check the request in the application rather than treating a missing email as evidence that nothing happened, and expect delayed mail to arrive later.
Does an outage affect payroll processing?
Payroll screens run inside the same application, so access to them stops during an incident. Short outages rarely move a pay date, but a failure close to a submission deadline deserves escalation to BambooHR support rather than repeated retries. Payroll cutoffs are set externally and do not move because software was unavailable.
Can new starters complete onboarding during an outage?
No, and this is the most visible external impact. Onboarding tasks are served from BambooHR, so a new employee following a link on their first morning sees a failure. Telling them directly is worth doing, since a broken onboarding link on day one reads as disorganisation rather than as a third-party incident.

How we measure this

  • We request BambooHR's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — 8 of them answered the most recent check.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where BambooHR publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
