Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What Auth0 (Okta) does

Auth0 is an identity and access management platform that provides authentication and authorization services. It enables developers to add login functionality to their applications without building it from scratch, supporting social logins, multi-factor authentication, and enterprise single sign-on. Auth0 is owned by Okta and handles billions of login transactions monthly.

What an outage looks like

When Auth0 is down, users cannot log in to applications that depend on it for authentication. Login pages may fail to load, return errors, or hang indefinitely. Token refresh requests fail, causing logged-in users to be abruptly signed out. Applications with no session fallback become completely inaccessible.

What to do about it

Check status.auth0.com for incident details specific to your tenant's region. If your application supports it, extend existing session token expiration times to prevent mass logouts during the incident. Auth0 provides a private cloud option for enterprises that need higher availability guarantees.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says Auth0 (Okta) is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from all 18 regions to find out where it breaks.

Auth0 (Okta) outage FAQ

Will my users be logged out if Auth0 goes down?
It depends on your token configuration. Users with valid, non-expired access tokens will remain logged in until their tokens expire. Once a token expires and the refresh request fails due to the Auth0 outage, the user will be logged out. Longer token lifetimes provide more buffer during outages.
Can users register new accounts during an Auth0 outage?
No, new user registration requires Auth0's services to be available. The signup flow, email verification, and initial token issuance all depend on Auth0's infrastructure. Users will need to wait until the outage is resolved to create new accounts.
How does an Auth0 outage differ from an application outage?
An Auth0 outage specifically affects authentication, meaning your application's backend and data may be fully functional. Users who are already authenticated with valid tokens can continue using the app. Only new logins, token refreshes, and signup flows are impacted.
Does Auth0 have different availability per region?
Yes, Auth0 operates in multiple regions (US, EU, AU, JP) and an outage in one region typically does not affect others. Your tenant is hosted in a specific region, so check status.auth0.com and filter by your region to see if you're affected.

How we measure this

  • We request Auth0 (Okta)'s public endpoint every 30 minutes from Fly.io regions across six continents — 18 of them answered the most recent check.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where Auth0 (Okta) publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
