Measured by FlareWarden's own checks of athenanet.athenahealth.com from multiple regions every 6 hours. athenahealth's status page sets the verdict above when it reports trouble, but never these figures. Percentages count only checks that returned an availability answer — 21 days measured so far. A dash means that window does not yet hold enough measured days to publish a figure.

What athenahealth does

athenahealth makes athenaOne, a cloud platform that combines an EHR, medical billing and practice management, and patient engagement tools for medical practices. Practice staff sign in through athenaNet at athenanet.athenahealth.com, the login page this check measures. Patients reach the same practices through patient portals and the athenaPatient app. The company also runs athenaOne Dental, athenaPractice, athenaTelehealth and the epocrates app.

What an outage looks like

Problems often hit one stack or feature, not all of athenaOne. The status page tracks printing, faxing, integrations, e-prescribing, APIs, clinical documents and the patient portal separately for each numbered stack, plus services such as Scheduling, Clinicals - Encounter and Credit Card Plus. In athenaTelehealth, patients waiting in the virtual lobby may not show as online. athenaPatient app users see errors such as We encountered a problem loading your data.

What to do about it

Open status.athenahealth.com and enter your practice ID under Find My Stack so the page shows only your stack. If your stack and the athenaOne Services rows are green and the problem continues, create a case from athenaOne under Support. If you cannot reach athenaNet at all, athenahealth asks you to email ServiceDisruption@athenahealth.com with your practice ID. Routine database maintenance is posted ahead, recently 1 to 6 a.m. ET.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says athenahealth is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from up to 17 cities across three regions to find out where it breaks.

athenahealth outage FAQ

Is athenahealth down for everyone or just my practice?
It can be just your practice. athenaOne runs on numbered stacks, and the status page reports each stack's printing, faxing, integrations, e-prescribing, APIs, clinical documents and patient portal separately, so an incident can affect one stack while others work. Enter your practice ID under Find My Stack on status.athenahealth.com to see only yours. If it is green and the problem continues, create a case from athenaOne under Support.
Does the status page cover the athenahealth patient portal?
Yes, but per stack. Each athenaOne stack has its own Patient portal row, and the stack lookup takes the practice's ID, so patients usually need the practice to check it. The athenaPatient app signs in with the patient portal email and password. For app problems that survive closing and reopening the app, rebooting and reinstalling, athenahealth tells patients to contact their healthcare provider's office.
Does a Zoom outage affect athenaTelehealth?
It can. During an athenaTelehealth incident in October 2026, athenahealth said it was working with its vendor, Zoom, on a fault where patients in the virtual waiting room did not show as online and visit durations could read 0 minutes. The confirmed workaround was for the provider or staff member to log into the visit, where the patients did appear online. athenaTelehealth has its own row on the status page.
What happens during athenaOne database maintenance?
Expect brief interruptions, not a full outage. athenahealth posts routine athenaOne database maintenance on the status page in advance, recently from 1 to 6 a.m. ET on the scheduled dates, and says the rest of athenaOne and its functions stay available. Maintenance on a support environment such as Preview blocks logging in to that environment only. If problems continue after the window closes, athenahealth asks you to create a case.
How long do athenahealth incidents usually last?
It varies from about an hour to a full day. On the status page, an access issue on October 9, 2026 was resolved in roughly an hour and a half, an October 5 access issue affecting Scheduling, Automated Messaging and Credit Card Plus took under six hours, and an athenaTelehealth fault that opened on October 12 was resolved the next day. Posted maintenance windows closed at their announced times.

How we measure this

  • We request athenahealth's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — the most recent check ran from 8 of them. When you open this page and our last check is more than 30 minutes old, we check again on the spot; those checks update the verdict, never the availability figures.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. Our checks only change their verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where athenahealth publishes an official status feed we read it too, and the verdict is the worse of what it reports and what our checks see: a major outage of athenahealth itself is Down, trouble with one part of it is Degraded, problems at a few of a provider's many locations change nothing, and a security notice that marks nothing down is shown but changes nothing either. A reading counts for 45 minutes; we read the feed again within minutes of any change to its incidents. The availability figures above are our measurement alone.
