Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What Affirm does

Affirm offers instalment financing at checkout, letting shoppers split a purchase into scheduled payments while the merchant is paid up front. It sits inside the checkout flow of retailers and marketplaces, so an outage does not degrade a store: it removes a payment method mid-purchase and loses the sale.

What an outage looks like

The Affirm option fails to appear at checkout, or appears and then errors when selected, leaving the basket intact but unpayable. Prequalification hangs without returning a decision. Existing customers cannot open the Affirm app to view or make payments. Merchant-side API calls for charges and transactions fail, so orders stall between authorisation and capture.

What to do about it

Check status.affirm.com, which reports Affirm Checkout, Prequalification, the Purchase, Transactions and Charges APIs, the mobile app and the platform integrations (Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Wix) separately, split by US, Canada and UK. Leave other payment methods enabled so checkout still completes. Avoid retrying a charge that may have authorised, since duplicate authorisations hold a customer's credit twice.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says Affirm is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from all 18 regions to find out where it breaks.

Affirm outage FAQ

Is Affirm down or was I declined?
A decline returns a decision explaining that financing was not approved, which is a normal outcome rather than an error. An outage produces a spinner that never resolves or a generic failure. Check status.affirm.com and specifically the Prequalification component. If Affirm is healthy, the answer came from underwriting and retrying immediately will not change it.
Will my scheduled payments still be taken during an outage?
Payment schedules are held by Affirm and are not cancelled by an availability incident, so instalments are processed on their normal dates. What an outage blocks is your ability to view the schedule or make an early payment through the app. If a due date falls inside a long incident, contacting Affirm afterwards is the sensible route.
Why has Affirm disappeared from a store's checkout?
Merchants integrate Affirm through platforms such as Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce and Wix, each reported as its own component. When the integration fails, the option is typically hidden rather than shown broken, so the checkout simply offers fewer methods. That is deliberate: a hidden option loses a sale, while a broken one loses the whole basket.
Should merchants retry a failed Affirm charge?
Not blindly. The Charges and Transactions APIs are separate components, and a call that timed out may still have authorised. Retrying can place a second hold against the customer's approved amount, which is visible to them and hard to explain. Query the transaction status once the API recovers, then act on what actually exists.
Does an Affirm outage affect my credit or existing loans?
No. An availability incident does not change loan terms, balances or reporting. Loans already originated continue on their schedule and nothing about the outage is recorded against you. The effect is limited to not being able to reach the service, whether that is applying at checkout or opening the app to check a balance.

How we measure this

  • We request Affirm's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — 8 of them answered the most recent check.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where Affirm publishes an official status feed we read it too, and let it override us in both directions.
