Reachability by region

Each region runs its own request from a different part of the world. A service can be up for one continent and down for another, which is usually the first sign of a routing or CDN problem.

What Adyen does

Adyen is a payment platform that combines gateway, risk and acquiring in a single stack, processing card, wallet and local payment methods for online checkouts, in-store terminals and marketplaces. Larger retailers and platforms integrate it directly, and it settles funds as well as authorising them, which puts it between the customer's payment and the merchant's bank account.

What an outage looks like

Checkout payments fail or hang after the customer submits card details, and specific payment methods can fail while cards succeed, because the platform routes many local methods and wallets. In-store terminals decline or time out. Merchant-side reporting and the customer area may be unreachable while authorisation continues, which makes the true volume of failures hard to judge from inside the dashboard.

What to do about it

Check status.adyen.com, which reports service status alongside separate maintenance and history sections and showed 99.999% uptime over the preceding 30 days when last read. Because Adyen routes many payment methods, confirm whether failures are confined to one method before treating it as a platform outage. Note the page's own caveat that it does not represent the service level commitments in your Adyen agreement.

Is it down for everyone, or just you?

If this page says Adyen is up but it is not loading for you, the problem is between you and them. Run a check against any URL from all 18 regions to find out where it breaks.

Adyen outage FAQ

Is Adyen down for everyone or only some payment methods?
Often only some. Adyen's status page tracks performance across a range of products, services and payment methods, so a wallet or a local scheme can fail while card payments succeed normally. Before declaring a checkout outage, check whether the failures cluster on one method. If they do, the problem may sit with that scheme or its provider rather than with Adyen's own platform.
Does the Adyen status page tell me whether my SLA was breached?
No, and it says so directly. The page carries an explicit note that it tracks performance across the platform and does not represent the service level commitments in your agreement with Adyen. Treat it as an operational signal about the current incident, and use your contract together with your own measurements if you need to establish whether a contractual threshold was actually missed.
Can I still take payments while Adyen is having problems?
It depends on your setup. Merchants with a second processor configured can route traffic to it, but many integrations use Adyen as the single path for both authorisation and settlement, so there is no fallback. Check the affected components first: an incident scoped to one payment method or one region leaves most traffic working, which calls for a different response than a full outage.
Where do I get help during an Adyen incident?
The status page links to Contact Support and a help centre, and carries maintenance and history sections alongside the current service status. Start with the service status to establish whether Adyen has already acknowledged the problem, because support conversations move faster when you can name the affected component and when it started rather than describing symptoms alone.

How we measure this

  • We request Adyen's public endpoint every 6 hours from Fly.io regions across six continents — 8 of them answered the most recent check.
  • A region counts as down only when it gets no usable HTTP response. A 403 or 429 means the origin answered and refused us, which we report as blocked, never as an outage.
  • A single failing region is treated as probe noise. We only change the verdict when two consecutive cycles agree.
  • Response times average only the regions that actually served the page, so a timeout never inflates the number.
  • Where Adyen publishes an official status feed we read it too. An all-clear from the vendor can soften an unconfirmed degradation; a vendor-declared outage only worsens our verdict when our own checks corroborate it.
