Domain Expiry Reminders Beta

When a domain's registration runs out, the website, its email and its SSL certificate stop working together, and the name can be lost. FlareWarden reads the registration of every website you monitor and emails you 30, 7 and 1 days before it expires.

How it works

Included with every website on every plan; it uses no extra monitors

Which domain

The domain registered for the website's address, so www.example.co.uk is read as example.co.uk. A site on a shared hosting address, such as yourapp.vercel.app, has no registration of its own, so there is nothing to remind you about.

Where the date comes from

The domain's registry, over RDAP (the registration data service every generic top-level domain runs), or WHOIS where a registry has no RDAP service. Some country registries, among them .de, .nl, .eu and .au, do not publish expiry dates; for those you see the registrar but no date, and no reminders are sent.

How often it is read

Weekly, and every day from 45 days before the expiry date until 30 days after it, so each reminder goes out on its day and a renewal is seen the next day.

Where to see it

Each website's DNS page has a Domain Registration card with the domain, its registrar, the expiry date and the days left, highlighted once 30 or fewer remain.

When reminders are sent

Each reminder is sent once for each expiry date

30 days before the expiry datedomain.expiring
7 days beforedomain.expiring
1 day beforedomain.expiring
Once, after the expiry date has passeddomain.expired
  • A website added when its domain is already close to expiry gets the reminder for the days it has left, for example the 7-day reminder with 5 days to go.
  • When the domain is renewed, the registry shows the new expiry date and the reminders start again for that date.
  • Two websites on the same domain send each person one email per reminder.
  • A maintenance window on the website holds a reminder until the next day's reading.

Who gets them

Email, webhooks and chat

Email: every team member who can see the website and has Domain Expiring switched on under Notifications. It is on for everyone unless they switch it off.

Webhooks: a webhook subscribed to domain.expiring or domain.expired receives the domain, its registrar and the expiry date. Slack, Discord and Google Chat destinations show it as a formatted message.
